Moving to Vietnam? Your Move-In and Move-Out Cleaning Checklist
Relocating is stressful enough. Between visas, work permits, school applications and shipping boxes, cleaning is usually the last thing on your mind. Yet a proper clean at the start and end of a lease makes a real difference. It helps you settle in comfortably and can help you get your full deposit back when you leave.
Moving in: start fresh
Even when a landlord says the apartment is "cleaned", it may only have had a quick sweep. Before you unpack, consider a full clean that covers:
- ☐ Kitchen cupboards, drawers, fridge and oven, inside and out
- ☐ Bathroom tiles, grout, drains and shower heads
- ☐ Air-conditioner filters and covers
- ☐ Mattresses and sofas (vacuumed or steam-cleaned)
- ☐ Windows, sliding doors and balcony tracks
- ☐ Wardrobes and shelves before you hang your clothes
Clean once, before your furniture and boxes arrive. It's faster, more thorough and cheaper than cleaning around everything later.
Moving out: protect your deposit
In Vietnam, deposits are often one to three months' rent, so it's worth getting them back in full. Landlords check for stains, grease, mould and damage. A professional move-out clean should include:
- ☐ Degreasing the kitchen hood, hob and tiles
- ☐ Removing limescale from taps and shower glass
- ☐ Wiping walls, switches and door handles
- ☐ Cleaning inside all cupboards and appliances
- ☐ Clearing balcony and window tracks
- ☐ A final mop and dust of every room
Take dated photos after the clean as a record for your handover.
Timing tips
- Book move-out cleaning one or two days before your handover, after the movers have finished.
- Book move-in cleaning before your shipment arrives.
- Around Tet and the end of the school year, demand is high, so book early.
